APRIL'S PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Rob Moorman
Photo competition?
Why should I do that?
I always hear the question, "Photo comp-etition? Why should I do that?" The purpose of competing against your peers in a print salon (or should I say in a digital salon) is to gain knowledge and to enhance your craft. Being competitive against your peers in competition will definitely give you the courage to compete in the real world.
I have been competing for 17 years now. The competitions have taught me a lot. I guarantee you that I have had more 79 prints than I have had 80 or above prints. Any successful baseball player that has been inducted into the hall of fame will tell you that they missed more runs than the ones it took to get them into the hall of fame. In order to win you must be willing to lose. You have to be willing to accept the losses and learn from your mistakes. This is the path it takes to become successful in competition and more importantly in the day-to-day creation of our clients images.
If you can meet the judges high standards you will always be able to meet your clients. Stop being a wallflower. Get out on the dance floor and start competing. You will see an improvement in your confidence, photography and your bottom line.
Lets all raise the standards together.
Your President,
Rob Moorman
