TAPPA PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

July 2010 - Love is... being a TAPPA member!

We were all awed last month with Parish Kohanim’s beautiful images and charming personality. This month it’s Carrie Viohl’s turn to show us how to make our community adore us. Also this month, we have the FPP Convention in Orlando. If you have been following Carol Walker’s excellent series of articles on “Bling”, I’m sure you have all your images ready for Print Competition.

Florida Convention is one of those “can’t miss” events for the Florida Photographer. Besides being a great opportunity to socialize with colleagues from across the state, the Print Competition and the excellent program, several of our members will be taking the CPP exam. Make us proud! I’m looking forward to seeing you all there.

A higher level of Education and Credentials are part of what makes TAPPA members different. I can’t even begin to thank all of you who make this possible on a day-to-day basis. From the organizers of CPP Study Group and Photo Safari to the less conspicuous areas of TAPPA like our Advisors, Salon Committee, Webmaster and so many of you who make our TAPPA events turnout successful and professional on a regular basis. You help add value to TAPPA membership and help our members be a successful part of our family

One area we need volunteers and ideas for is on how “to improve the public's awareness and appreciation for the Art of Professional Photography”. This is one of TAPPA’s stated goals and all TAPPA members would no doubt benefit from having the Tampa Bay consumers better educated not only in the appreciation of the art of photography, but also on how to use that art in their homes and businesses, why professional photography is “so expensive”, what to look for when hiring a “professional photographer”, copyright issues, etc. We also need to help the public understand why hiring a TAPPA member above any other photographer is always going to be to their advantage. I would like to encourage you to approach me or a member of the board if you would like to assist with this endeavor or if you have any ideas that might help. All suggestions are welcome.

Another area we are working on and will need help with is our Membership Drive. We are preparing a small brochure listing all the good reasons to become a TAPPA member, but please don’t wait for it to come out. If you run into a photographer that is not a TAPPA member, invite them to visit as a guest! Who knows, they might like it. Let’s make more friends!
